about us
Formerly Art Spectra – we’re now a blog!
Dyana and Helen met as remote interns for a private art fund back in 2020 and connected on LinkedIn when they both got ghosted by the company’s CEO, whom they knew only through WhatApp voice messages.
They soon realized they had a lot in common: they were both from Canada, both studied traditional humanities subjects at university, and the last task they had each gotten from the CEO was to come up with a new media platform that would bring news from the Asian art world to English-speaking audiences in the West.
Months passed and they eventually decided to just do it on their own; after all, they’d already done the imaginative work. As Art Spectra, they iterated through digital content campaigns, Clubhouse chats, open calls, community events, gallery visits, private viewings, and more. Feeling a little burnt out after two years, it was time to get back to the drawing board of what they wanted to do in the first place.
let’s rebrand !
and just be a blog
sure!! do we keep the name... or start fresh? let’s do fresh 😎 did you have anything in mind ?? what if we mash two random words together like...medium silk 🤪
wait i kinda love this
So what is Medium Silk?
Medium Silk is a blog where two art-loving girlies share what they like.
It’s partly meant to be an archive of thoughts and insights, and partly a curated resource for those who are out there on a similar journey in the art world.
It’s also meant to be down-to-earth, candid, critical, hopefully amusing, and fully-independent.
Everything comes directly from Dyana and Helen, though sometimes you’ll also find contributions from their friends – old and new, and not all strictly artsy.
At the heart of it all, this is meant to be a space for:
- Taking a fresh look at art and history beyond the (Euro-American) canon, with a specific focus on Asia in a global context; and
- Staying on top of what’s new in art: the artists, exhibitions, scholarship, etc.
Instagram’s the easiest way to keep up with us on the daily (@mediumsilk), or you can email us at hello@mediumsilk.com!
Anyways, welcome to medium silk ~
